Welcoming a New Year and a New Adventure

2 Jan

Well, I guess it is about time, or rather, waaaaaay past time, that I get back to blogging.  I hope the blogging world can forgive me for completely dropping off the face of the earth, mid 30 days posting.   Real life got real crazy, real fast.  I got ridiculously busy at work and then Jason got some big news at his job.  Jason was offered an incredible opportunity and after much contemplation, he decided to take the promotion.  Guess what that means?  We are moving, AGAIN!!  We will be moving to Nashville, Tennessee at the end of the month.  Since the day he accepted the job, it has been non-stop work for me to get everything together to sell our house and buy a new house.  Needless to say, the timing was quite ironic since I was working on the How to Sell Your House posts (I will be finishing up the series after we get our house sold and a new one bought since I am even more knowledgeable now)!

We are very excited about this new adventure.  For me, it will mean a new job (and possibly career).  I don’t have any idea what I will be doing in Nashville, which is both incredibly invigorating and also very scary.  I really hope I can find something that aligns with my passions.  For now, my full time job is handling the relocation.  For anyone who has ever relocated with a company, I know you feel my pain.   There are about 15 different people that I have to deal with including 2 people at the relocation company, a listing agent, a buying, agent, lenders, packers, movers, vehicle movers, inspectors, and appraisers Oh My!  I have been on the phone more in the last two months than I have the last year.

As for our house here in Scottsdale, we received a full price offer the first week it was on the market!  I got a ton of compliments on our home decor and everyone asked if I was a designer (wow!  I’m not gonna lie, I loved that!).  We are still waiting on the appraisal to come so we know if the deal is going to go through or not.  In today’s world, banks are being very cautious on appraisals and we are aware this could be an issue.  Our home selling experience has been VERY different from last time (we had a cash buyer previously) so we’ve learned a lot about the volatility involved with selling your home.  It has been a very stressful process, full of ups and downs.  Thankfully, we have a GREAT agent who goes above and beyond the call of duty!

Of course, we will be purchasing a new home and that means all new decorating!  We are in the process of purchasing a bank owned home.   We put an offer in over 2 weeks ago and after much verbal negotiation, we are just waiting on the bank to sign the final contract (we have a verbal acceptance).  We still have to go through the inspection and appraisal process, so we are trying not to get overly excited yet.  But, I would be lying if I told you I haven’t started looking at paint colors and light fixtures!   As soon as everything is final, I’ll share some photos!  I don’t want to jinx it!

In the midst of all this chaos, we spent time in Nashville house hunting, a couple days in South Beach and then headed out to the Caribbean for 7 nights on a Celebrity cruise with my sister and brother-in-law.  It was AMAZING.   The perfect combination of things I love- my sister and her husband, my husband, delicious food, fruity cocktails, and endless blue water.  It was a much needed vacation for me and Jason.  Jason had a little bit of seasickness, which wasn’t so fun, but otherwise we had a wonderful trip!  After the cruise we all headed home to Sheridan for Christmas with our family.  It was great to all be together for the holiday!

We were gone for 20 straight days and were SO glad to be home again.  There is no place like home!  Not to mention, it was in pristine condition since we were still showing the house when we left, which made it even more fun to come home!  It didn’t take us long to untidy the place!  We had a lot of holiday cards waiting on us, which was so nice!

I’ll be back tomorrow to share some photos of the trip and to talk more about my plans for 2012!
