Bonus Design- Take 2

21 Jan

Let’s try this  again.

Here is a photo of the bonus room as it looks now (it is bigger than it looks- 13×23)

The first thing we plan to do is replace the carpet with hardwoods.  The space is over the garage, so noise isn’t an issue.  Then we are painting and changing out those ugly fans.

Here is the layout of the bonus room that we came up with:

There is a half bath attached to the bonus room.  There is also a good size nook where we plan to add some upper and lower cabinets and a mini fridge.

Here is the design for the TV side of the room that will be used for movie watching, playstation gaming and lounging:

The charcoal gray is the same color from the office.  We are trying to minimize the number of colors since it cost extra when the painters switch colors!  We are just going to paint the back wall (where the nook and bathroom are) as an accent wall.  The rest of the room will be a light gray (which will make an appearance in a couple of bedrooms).  The black and white are homage to our alma mater, Arkansas State University.  Jason played football there and we are still big fans.  Now we finally have a room to show our spirit and display some memorabilia.  We already own the white couch, the chairs and the media cabinet.  We probably won’t really use that light fixture, but I want something more fun in the room.  Since the ceilings are only 8 feet upstairs, we are using close to ceiling lights to help the ceilings not feel as low (ex- see low hanging ceiling fans above).

Here is the design for the other side of the room:

This side will be used for board games, card games and snacking.  The table shown is our current kitchen table.  We plan to replace the kitchen table with a round table and move this to the bonus room.  The area will also be used for riveting games of ping pong!  There is a huge storage closet off of the bonus room and we will be able to store the ping pong table there.  When we want to play, we simply roll it out!  The storage shelf is the Expedit from Ikea.  I’m not sure if I want to get white and paint it or go with the dark wood one.  We will use fun baskets for storing cards and games and display some of our ASU stuff in other cubbies.   The photo of the cabinetry is our inspiration for the built ins.

So, what do you think?!  Thoughts??  Suggestions? We are very excited about having a bonus room for hanging out.  We love to play games and such, so this is a perfect space for us!
